Desperation Road (Movie Review)

desperation road movie poster

Desperation Road (Movie Review) - I found this movie in Amazon's new movie section while trying to find something to watch for New Year's Eve. I saw Mel Gibson and Garrett Hedlund (whom I know as Jack from Four Brothers and, more recently, Tulsa King) and was interested, so I watched the trailer. I noticed that Ryan Hurst portrayed the villain, and I had just happened to watch Remember The Titans that morning, so I was glad to see him working. I hadn't seen him since his role in Sons of Anarchy, which I really enjoyed. The movie looked decent, so I gave it a shot.

The movie gets right to the point and gets pretty dark real quick, showing the struggle of a poor single mother (Maben) who lost her baby daddy in a crazy accident years before, which leads to the overall storyline of the movie. Jack (from Four Brothers) is recently released from jail and right away has his past come back to kick him in the ass (literally), leading to his and Maben's paths crossing.

The beginning of the movie hit me because my daughter is the same age as Maben's daughter in the movie, and it actually got me a bit emotional within the first 5 minutes. I think Maben could have been better, but I was not mad at her overall performance. The other three main characters I enjoyed, while a majority of the supporting cast sucked. The overall story isn't great, but I did like how they brought it all full circle at the end. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Rating Scale:

1. Trash AF - Shoot me in the face for wasting my time

2. Decent - It was bad, but there was something I liked about it

3. Dope - We'll call this the $5 rack at Wal-Mart, it wasnt good or bad, but I liked it

4. Good shit - Aside from some minor things I didnt like, it was good

5. Fucking Epic - Was dope AF, go watch it now fucko
